A Clock in Progress consists of three clocks. The first clock is just an unmodified clock. The second clock is caught in a perpetual moment, with its secondhand twitching in-between 11:59:59 and 12:00:00, symbolizing a state of being on the cusp of transition but never fully crossing over. The third clock, in contrast, will have its secondhand going backwards (anti-clockwise), suggesting a potential reversal of time and a desire to reclaim past moments. Together, they invite viewers to reflect on their normalized idea of what a clock should do, the instability of the idea of “now,” and the disjunctive feeling between lived time (how we perceive and experience time) and clock time (how time is “objectively” represented and constructed).
